...next time somebody tries to flex their ego and belittle you by reminding you of all that they have "accomplished" remind them of "Ozymandias"
by Percy Shelley:

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
`My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!'
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away".

Sister Leveau just stopped in to mix us up a lil' Sumpin'-Sumpin' for you-know-who!

“Belief in magic is older than writing. So nobody knows how it started...Nobody knows for sure how many thousands in America are warmed by the fire of hoodoo, because the worship is bound in secrecy. It is not the accepted theology of the Nation and so believers conceal their faith….Nobody can say where it begins or ends...."

Jonesin' for justice...

"To The Man God: O great One, I have been sorely tried by my enemies and have been blasphemed and lied against. My good thoughts and my honest actions have been turned to bad actions and dishonest ideas. My home has been disrespected, my children have been cursed and ill-treated. My dear ones have been backbitten and their virtue questioned. O Man God, I beg that this that I ask for my enemies shall come to pass:

That the South wind shall scorch their bodies and make them wither and shall not be tempered to them. That the North wind shall freeze their blood and numb their muscles and that it shall not be tempered to them. That the West wind shall blow away their life's breath and will not leave their hair grow, and that their finger nails shall fall off and their bones shall crumble. That the East wind shall make their minds grow dark, their sight shall fail and thier seed dry up so that they shall not multiply..."

Beeble with a Human face

My latest selection for my photo is an image of Beeble Baxter, my Second Life avatar of many forms. Originally he had the face of a ring tail raccoon and this is my favored form, but misunderstandings about the meaning of his "furry" status moved me to create other looks for him. Beeble "Skin" will be helping launch our House of Usher simulation in SL. To read more about creating an avatar and reflections on digital identity, see… Continue

PhD in a Garage?

You don't often find a PhD in a garage, but here in Richmond, Virginia we have exactly that.
Matthew Crawford holds a PhD in Philosophy and works in his own motorcycle repair shop near Shockoe Bottom. His recent book about the cognitive and spiritual values of manual labor, Shop Class as Soulcraft, considers the intellectual and physical impact of replacing mechanical shop classes with computer classes in American high schools… Continue

Nature, Identity & Technology

A recent NYT Magazine article "Growing Up On Facebook" is a relevant look at how Web 2.0 technologies are changing not only how we communicate, but how we define our identity. Orenstein's observation that a Facebook page might actually limit personal growth is an interesting consideration. As I read, I couldn't help but think of Annie Dillard's amazing essay "LiContinue

Thanks, Lee, sometimes I need to be reminded, ministry can happen wherever I am present.
